Youths and some elders of Old Aguata Union, comprising of three local government area have rejected the slot of a deputy governorship candidate, saying that the area will settle for nothing but the governorship position of the state.
The Zone said it was tired of playing the second fiddle to people of other zones who always settled for them as their deputy governors, which they said had not benefited the area.
Some youths of the area who attended a meeting which was later turned to an avenue to endorse a governorship candidate from another part of the state raised their voices in protest when a motion for the adoption of the candidate was moved.
DAILYPOST gathered that some elders of the area had gathered to endorse the candidature of Governor Willie Obiano who hails from the northern senatorial zone when the youths and some prominent elders rejected the move, insisting that their son, Chief Godwin Ezeemo was also in the contest and deserved to be supported.
One of the youths, Comrade Emmanuel Agu who opposed the move said enough was enough.
Supporting Agu, some youths who were present at the meeting began a protest against the elders over the choice of a governorship candidate from another zone, saying that their son, Mr Godwin Ezeemo was in the contest and should be supported.
Agu said, “The voice of the people must be heard. We refuse to continue in ignorance. We are tired of being relegated to the deputy governorship position in every election.”
He said that it was most unfortunate that people from Old Aguata had a candidate like Mr Godwin Ezeemo amongst them, yet were seeking to endorse an external person who is “incapable of delivering quality dividends of democracy.”
DAILYPOST gathered that the meeting which had the likes of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor of the State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, two former Deputy Governors from the area, Dr Okey Udeh and Mr Emeka Sibeudu had met to reiterate an earlier endorsement of the Anambra State governor, Chief Obiano.
It was, however, gathered that the endorsement was to enable Obiano serve out his second term and return power to the Southern zone where the union belonged according to the zoning arrangement of the state.
