Anambra Central re-run poll: Ekwunife denies planning to dump PDP for APC

Senator Uche Ekwunife representing Anambra Central senatorial zone, has stated that she remains in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, contrary to insinuations in some quarters that she had defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A statement she signed also noted that she was in the race to contest the March 2016 poll in the area.

On her disqualification saga, she said “no state chapter of the PDP conducts the party primaries. It is the business of the national leadership of our great party.

“There were five-member panel from the national secretariat that conducted the National Assembly primaries in Anambra State. We all went through the same process; so why single only me out.

“I have taken everything in good faith. If God that sent me there wants me to be there again, I’ll be there, but I strongly believe that the issue of disqualification being spread everywhere is the handiwork of my opponent in All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Chief Victor Umeh.

“Umeh is afraid of election and he thinks the only way he can undo me is through blackmail. No court can disqualify somebody based on party primaries. Nobody disqualified me, nobody has disqualified PDP. The court has ordered fresh election and not re-run and l have started my campaign.

“I am ready for the election. I am in the race to contest and win. No amount of blackmail will stop me because God abhors injustice. Umeh should leave me alone because I am not his problem.

“His problem is the electorate, a greater percentage of whom will not vote for him in the forthcoming fresh poll.”

Ekwunife concluded that she was confident that she would again emerge as PDP’s flag bearer for the election.
