Abeokuta, Sept. 25, 2014 (NAN) Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun on Thursday appealed to citizens not to nurse any fear over the rumoured plan by armed robbers to carry out attacks in the state.

Amosun made the appeal at Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area during an assessment tour of the area.

The News Agency of NIGERIA (NAN) reports that the rumour forced commercial banks in the entire Ijebuland to remain closed on Monday.

The governor assured the people that no robbery incident would happen in Ogun without the perpetrators being caught, going by the security measures put in place in the state.

He said that even if the security arrangements were sabotaged, armed robbery incidents in Ogun would definitely be foiled.

“Ogun State is now a secured state, security is for all of us and we, as government, will do our best.

“Please let all of us be rest assured that there cannot be any armed robbery attack in our communities.

“Ogun state of today is not the Ogun State of yesterday; things are now different in Ogun state.

“Before now, nobody could boast of any security. By 4 p.m., nobody would want to work again; but now, people are doing shift duties,’’ he said.

The governor said he had ordered that all the Amoured Personnel Carriers in Ijebuland be put back to shape to further reinforce the people’s belief in the security arrangements in the state.

He also said that the government planned to create local council development areas in the state to enhance government presence in all nooks and crannies of the state. (NAN)
