Assistant coach of Nigeria Daniel Amokachi, has insisted that Stephen Keshi is still the Super Eagles handler, despite the fact his contract has expired.
Keshi’s deal ended after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but he was retained for the remaining AFCON qualifying matches and he ultimately failed to qualify the team for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
There is still controversy over whether Keshi will stay or not, but Amokachi, who is preparing the Eagles for friendly matches against Sudan and Ivory Coast, says his boss is still in charge.
“This is not my team I’m only sitting in for my boss, Stephen Keshi. I can’t betray him. He’s the boss and I’m only here to do a job as a coach,” Amokachi told Cool FM.
Speaking about their two upcoming games and some of the new faces in the squad, Amokachi said: “These are players that we know, a lot of them we know and Keshi knows they are coming into the fold. And it’s always good to work with young players who want to learn and are willing to get to the next level and I think it’s a good start.”
