Senator Gbenga Ashafa, on Tuesday expressed optimism that the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode will put to good use the $200m World Bank loan which the Presidency asked the Senate to approve for the State.

The senator representing Lagos-East senatorial district, disclosed this a day after the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Foreign and Local Debts visited Lagos on an inspection tour of projects.

DAILY POST recalls that the World Bank had in 2010 approved a Development Policy Operation loan worth $600m to the State Government which is to be granted over three phases with $200m given in each phase.

According to the senator, every member of the committee agreed that the state government had put the loan to good use.

Ashafa further stated that he was certain that the Ambode led government would carry on with the good legacy left behind.

“All my colleagues in the committee agreed that the $400m was well spent and I can’t see any reason why the remaining $200m will not be approved by the Senate,” Asahafa said.
