Rivers State Governor-Elect, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has accused the outgoing Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi of engaging in the manufacture of visuals and audio in the Government House, Port Harcourt to mislead Nigerians on the Rivers State Governorship Election.
Speaking during “Focus Nigeria”, a political programme on AIT on Wednesday, the Rivers State Governor-elect noted that there was no way that the APC would have won the State Governorship Election because the party was not ready for April 11.
He said that the APC in Rivers State worked desperately to disrupt the governorship election by instigating violence, but added that the people of the state remained focused.
Barrister Wike narrated how the outgoing Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi came to his family home to provoke his supporters on election day. He noted that the same governor went to different wards in other LGAS breaking electoral laws.
The governor-elect said that contrary to Amaechi’s propaganda, the governorship election in Rivers State was peaceful and in accordance with the electoral laws.
He regretted that the APC has formed the habit of using falsehood to discredit elections in communities where they lost. According to him, PDP sitting governors lost elections in Benue, Bauchi, Kaduna, Niger, Jigawa and Plateau States, but have chosen to respect the process, while Amaechi has resorted to spreading falsehood with the aid of his media associates/international observers.
He said : “ It would have been impossible for the APC to win an election in Rivers State. The people where committed to their President Jonathan. On April 11, the people turned out in large numbers to express their anger over the defeat of the President.
“Amaechi’s claim that the President influenced the governorship election in Rivers State is false. Does it mean that the President only wanted victory in Rivers State and did not care what happened in Benue, Jigawa, Kaduna, Niger, Plateau and Bauchi states. The victory of PDP in Rivers State is a true reflection of the wishes of the people. The courts have been closed for over one year, the Assembly is not functioning, pension has not been paid and there is illegal deductions of workers salaries. The people want a new Rivers State”.
On security during the governorship election, Barrister Wike reminded Nigerians that few days to the election, Amaechi had claimed that he was in charge of the Police and the Army, which he will used for the elections.
He noted that Amaechi and AIG Oginsakin worked desperately to undermine security during the election. Barrister Wike said that the PDP had to formally reported to the Inspector-General on the unprofessional role played by AIG Oginsakin , hence his redeployment.
“APC has created the false impression about violence in Rivers State during the governorship election, when in reality APC unleashed violence on PDP members. However, the violence on PDP members are never reported because we have no control of the media, Barrister Wike said.
He said that the PDP in Rivers State is ready to meet the APC at the election tribunal, noting that the election was done in compliance with the electoral laws.
