Amaechi finally attends PDP Governor’s Forum meeting, avoids press briefing

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi yesterday attended the PDP Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio, bringing to an end weeks of his refusal to recognize the body.

It was the first time Amaechi participated in the forum’s meeting since its inception.

He however did not show up at the press briefing after the meeting, as he dashed out as though in a hurry.

Amaechi who has been in the news over some disagreements with the presidency and PDP leadership, has never hidden his grouse with Akpabio’s emergence as the PDPGF Chair.

His loyalists say selecting another South-southerner to head the forum was a deliberate gambit by the presidency to whittle down the influence Ameachi has in national and party politics.

The rift further deepened recently when Justice Ishaq Bello of an Abuja High Court threw out the Rivers state, Godswill Ake-led executive, a group loyal to Amaechi.

Akpabio in a chat with newsmen said the parley was for the progress of the party. He said the Governors of the PDP had resolved to win more states for the party in the 2015 general elections, adding that the ongoing crisis in South-West chapter of the party would soon pass with the reconciliation efforts of the Ibrahim Shema committee.

The Governor also disclosed that Governors under the PDP platform had mapped out strategies to end the Boko Haram insurgency. This, he said was contained in the report of the Murtala Nyako committee.

In a related development, 19 out of 36 Governors attended the Nigeria Governors’ Forum ,NGF,meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night.

DAILYPOST gathered that discussions could not hold due to the deaths of Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, a former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Ogiri Ajene and also the Baga killings in Borno state.

Governors of Niger, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Plateau, Katsina, Abia, Benue, Kebbi, Bauchi, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Kogi states as well as the acting Governor of Taraba state, attended the meeting.
