A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt , Rivers State yesterday arraigned three more suspects of the October 5, gruesome murder of four students of University of Port Harcourt, in Omuokiri–Aluu community.
It would be recalled that 6 persons were earlier charged to court in connection with the killing of Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekenah Elkanah.
The three new suspects faced a five-count charge that bothers on conspiracy to kill the four students.
Those arraigned were Finebone Jeffrey, 23; Joshua Ekpe, 27 and Abang Cyril, 27. Their pleas were not taken.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Emmanuel Woke, in a short verdict said, the honourable court lacked the power to welcome the case and thus adjourned it till February 28, 2013.
It was also gathered that another set of 13 suspects were brought to the court venue but not allowed to enter the court room.
However, the Human Rights Council of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Port Harcourt branch, has applied for the case file of the suspects.
According to the Chairman of the branch, Mr. Austin Ojeukeudo, the association wants to make sure there is no foul play in the judgement.
The charges preferred against the suspects, read “you and others at large on October 5, 2012, at Omuokiri, Aluu community in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 laws of Rivers State, 1999.”
