A group under the aegies of Foundation for Human Rights And Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, Tuesday, threatened to drag the Ondo State Government to the United Nations and its relevant organs for war crimes if it fails to compensate the people of Ajapa community.
In a statement signed by Alaowei E. Cleric, the National President, FHRACC, he alleged that the recent invasion and destruction of about four communities in the Kingdom by the military in the name of pursuing fleeing militants was totally condemnable, pointing out that,”It is a crime against humanity”.
While noting that no community in Arogbo Kingdom had declared war against the government, FHRACC said the Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu should know that the people needed his protection.
FHRACC expressed dissatisfaction over to the Ondo State Governor’s recent visit to Ajapa Community, stressing that,” It was made to cover his crime against Ajapa people.”
“The Ondo State Government only took a one sided tour to the ravaged community apparently to shield some facts from the public.
“Since there are varying claims as to the level of destruction on the Community, we do not expect it to embark on such bizarre move without involving reputable civil society groups and other non-governmental organisations.
“Gleaned from the Governor’s initial conspiracy of silence, while Ajapa was in flame and now his esoteric journey to the damaged Community with his biased report, we sensed that Akeredolu is an accomplice before the act.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime against Ajapa people only executed a prepared script authored by the Ondo State Governor in collaboration with some self-seeking and power intoxicated persons in Arogbo Kingdom.
“For the Governor to brazenly said he knew the soldiers will revenge for the death of their personnel that was killed by the militants, shows his level of complicity”, he said.
FHRACC also stated that for the governor to justify the alleged military invasion of Ajapa Community was totally unacceptable.
FHRACC further lambasted the governor for his call on Ajapa people to return to their ravaged homes without any concrete arrangements for their safety and upkeep.
“It is ridiculous and childish”, he said, adding that “the governor is only trying to further endanger the people’s lives with his call, for reasons best known to him.”
FHRACC noted that if the governor wanted the people of Ajapa Community to return their homes, he should first put some palliative measures in place to cater for the humanitarian needs of the community.
“He should immediately commence the rebuilding of the damaged houses. Most of the inhabitants in the Community have lost all their means of livelihood”, he claimed.
