Alleged imposition: Enugu PDP Senatorial aspirant absolves Gov. Ugwuanyi of blames

A former Enugu North Senatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chinedu Eya has called on supporters and aggrieved participants in the just concluded primary elections of the PDP across the state to desist from linking their inability to clinch the party’s tickets to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s influence.

This followed complaints which had trailed exercise from some members who felt there was no level playing ground.

However, the Party chieftain, who described Governor Ugwuanyi as a “lover of peace and promoter of democracy” explained that the Governor’s insistence on primary elections across all board was to ensure that the people’s will triumph at the end of the exercise.

He hailed Ugwuanyi “for opening up the political space in the State, which gave room for members to express their interest and aspire for various positions.”

Chief Eya in a statement by his media aide, Gwiyi Solomon further urged the aggrieved Aspirants and their followers to seek redress of their displeasure through the Party’s internal mechanism for the resolution of complaints as the party’s door is wide open to accommodate grievances as well as redress them in the interest of peace.

Chinedu said, “First of all, I wish to hail Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for throwing open the political space for the first time in this State. Before now, what we used to have was anointing of candidates to the extent that people were never allowed to even go for primaries.

“For the first time, members of the PDP in Enugu State exercised their voting rights during primary elections.

“However, in every exercise, there must be complaints. But one thing is clear, the Governor Ugwuanyi we all know is a man of peace, lover of democracy and promoter of people’s interest. People should please count him out of any conspiracy in their losses.

“Anybody linking him to manipulation in the just concluded primary is only on a long journey to nowhere,” Chief Eya noted.

“I can understand there might be genuine complaints arising from the exercises, but they should know that our party has an internal system capable of handling these issues,” he concluded.
