Alleged impeachment plot: Lawmaker denies gang up against Fayose

The Chairman , House Committee on Information in the Ekiti Stat House of Assembly, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan, has denied the allegation of ganging up with those opposed to Governor Ayodele Fayose within the‎ Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and beyond to derail his administration.

Aribisogan, said he had displayed unflinching loyalty and commitment to the Fayose’s political empire, even at the most difficult times, adding that those peddling the rumour were not only plotting to divide the assembly, but had begun desperate moves for the 2019 elections.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon Segun Adewumi and Aribisogan, narrowly escaped impeachment and subsequent suspension on Tuesday for allegedly hobnobbing with Senator Buruji Kashamu, presidential Adviser on Political matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu and an eminent lawyer, Femi Falana, to heat up the polity and create atmosphere of crisis in the state.

Despite that the duo of Adewumi and Aribisogan, representing Ekiti West and Ikole constituencies 1 respectively, escaped being suspended over the allegation, a source in the assembly hinted‎ that the assembly members were still plotting to suspend the lawmakers .

They were also alleged to be fraternizing with the embattled PDP secretary in Ekiti, Dr Tope Aluko, a former PDP Chieftain and now APC Stalwart, Yinka Akerele and others to pull the government down.

At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Friday, Aribisogan denied ever holding any meeting with Senator Buruji and other suspected enemies of‎ the government, saying he would never betray the confidence reposed in him by the governor.

He, however, accused a particular lawmaker of causing crisis of confidence between him and the governor, in order to gain upper hand for the 2019 elections in the Oye/Ikole federal constituency.

“Let me put on record here that except the time I accompanied Governor Fayose to visit Buruji in 2014 and recently when I met him in company of the governor, I never had any personal dealing with him.

“For Falana and Ojudu, I have been a major critic of their roles in Ekiti project and they can never in their wildest imaginations invite me to any clandestine meeting and they are all alive to corroborate or deny the claims.

“I am a steadfast and major critical stakeholder in Fayose’s emergence as Governor of Ekiti right from the primaries to the governmental level. I have repeatedly spoken about by absolute belief and commitment in the government of Fayose and its policies, even at most difficult times and I can’t be a sellout at this time when the battle is presumed to have been won.

“On the other side, a particular lawmaker in the house was plotting to undermine Ikole constituency in the 2019 elections and he was behind the gossip , blackmail and intrigues in the House to cause a serious rift between me and Mr Governor.

“I hereby want to reiterate and reaffirm my commitment and loyalty to his excellency, Governor Fayose and the government of Ekiti State”, he ‎said.
