The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State yesterday said all state chapters of the party across the country benefited from the fund its National Chairman, Chief Olu Falae collected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Tony Anneih for the last year Presidential election.
The Publicity Secretary of the party in Ondo state, Mr Remi Olayiwola in a chat with DAILY POST explained that the fund was paid to the party’s account but not Falae’s account as been speculated.
Olayiwola said, “both the SDP and the PDP agreed to work together for the victory of former President, Goodluck Jonathan and when our National Chairman, Falae was approached, he carried all the stakeholders along and the party was paid through Falae who is the National Chairman of the party.
“The money was paid into the party’s account and the money was shared among all the state chapters of the party and it was used to execute the project it was meant for.
“We had no cause to doubt the PDP and had no cause to investigate the source of the party’s money, knowing very well that the party is big and very rich. At the same time, we were aware that the PDP realized the sum of N21Billion during a fund raising event organized by the party.
“Our conclusion was that the money given to us was from the one realized during the fund raising programme.”
He expressed confidence in the integrity of Falae and other leaders of the party, saying the name of former National Security Adviser; Col Sambo Dasuki was not mentioned during the deal between Falae and Anenih.
Also, the SDP Leader denied insinuation that the development has led to a crack within the party in the state, saying that the SDP remains united in the state and was working hard for the next Governorship election in the state.
He explained that the leadership of the party was carried along in all the dealings between Falae and Anenih, just as he informed that all members of the party in the state were briefed on the development before it came to public glare.
He stressed that the SDP had no dealing with Dasuki and was not aware of the arms fund released to him by the Federal Government.
