The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Friday, re-arraigned a former Chief of Administration at the Nigerian Air Force headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Alkali Mamu, before a high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on bribery charges. EFCC alleged that Mamu collected a cash gift of N5.9m for the purchase of a Range Rover Evoque.

He also allegedly received two vehicles – a Ford Expedition SUV and a Jaguar XF Saloon valued at N15m and N12m - from Societe D’ Equipments Internationaux Nigeria Limited.

Mamu pleaded not guilty to the four-counts charge read to him and the court upheld the bail earlier granted him.

The re-arraignment followed an application filed on April 24 by the anti-corruption commission through its counsel, SlyvanusTahir, to amend the earlier three-count charge filed on March 30, 2016, having detected an error in it.

Tahir, had told the court on May 19 that the amendment was brought pursuant to Sections 216 and 217 of the Administration of Criminal Justice (ACJ) Act 2015, adding that it was supported by a six-paragraph affidavit.

The EFCC had closed its case against Mamu on December 14, 2016 after calling four witnesses to prove its case against him.

Ruling yesterday, trial judge, Justice Salisu Garba granted EFCC leave to amend the charge brought against the retired Air Vice Marshal.

He ordered the release of Mamu’s international passport to enable him travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah (lesser Hajj) and adjourned the case to July 10.
