Aliyu supports fuel subsidy removal, says oil cabal milking Nigeria

Outgoing governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has called for the total removal of fuel subsidy.

He said such remains the best solution in the face of the current trauma Nigerians are suffering over petroleum products.

Aliyu spoke in Minna yesterday at the commissioning of a hotel constructed by Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P).

He said the removal of fuel subsidy will put out of business the cabal benefiting from the policy

“Unless fuel subsidy is removed and we go back to the real market, we will continue to have the type of problem facing the country at the moment.,” he said.

“Is it not an irony that we sell crude oil and we end up buying refined petroleum from the international market?’’

However, the governor also called for the regionalisation of the distribution of power instead of connecting all parts of the country to the national grid.

He wondered why the federal government was demanding that states that have the resources to construct power plants route energy generated to the national grid from where.

Aliyu further decried Nigeria’s epileptic electricity, saying it affects the economic and social lives of the people.

“We must begin to consider regionalising the energy sector to encourage the growth of the economy,” he added.
