“Aliyu lied, he deliberately made Speaker acting governor” – Niger Deputy Governor

Deputy Governor of Niger State, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto, has spoken on the refusal of Governor Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, to hand over to him when traveling abroad.

He also disclosed that some of his aides have been withdrawn.

Ibeto yesterday addressed a press conference in Minna, Niger State, over a statement by the Governor Aliyu that he refused to hand over to his deputy because he (deputy) was out of the country.

Ibeto said the constitution makes it automatic for him to govern in acting capacity, whenever the governor travels out of town.

His words: “The claim that I was not in town when the Governor was traveling is not true.

“I wrote to the governor to travel twice but he did not approve. I have never traveled without his permission.

“First, I wrote that I want to take two weeks out of my leave to travel but no response and I gave another letter to my PA and delivered to his secretary yet no reply, the file is lying in his office now”, he said.

Insisting that Aliyu deliberately by-passed him and handed over the mantle of governorship to the Speaker, Ibeto recalled that his principal had always handed over to him when traveling out of the country by writing to the State House of Assembly.
