Former governor of Kebbi State Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero on Monday reveals why former governors at the Senate are supporting the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, also a former governor, nominated Saraki for the Senate Presidency on June 9th when the 8th Assembly was proclaimed.
Presently, former governors, numbering 14 at the Senate, have been solidly behind Saraki, who defeated Senator Ahmed Lawan, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an interview with Daily Ttrust, Aliero (APC, Kebbi Central) gave reasons why the bloc threw their weight behind the Senate president, who is a former governor of Kwara State.
His words: “One, he was a former governor like us. So far, he is leading the Senate very well. So, I don’t see reasons why he should not be supported.
“He is giving the right leadership to us; he is trying to carry everybody along; he is very supportive of the Executive arm of government and Saraki is leading the Senate properly.
“Also, Saraki is trying to unite the Senate irrespective of political differences and factions, he tries to be fair to all and nobody is complaining.”
“We will continue to support him as long as he is supporting what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. If he goes wrong, we will not hesitate to caution him so that he can amend.”
