Former Chairman of the correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State, Alhaji Garba Mohammed emerged the chairman of the state council of the union in an election keenly contested by other two candidates.
Speaking after taking his oath of office in a free, fair and credible election at the state council secretariat in Kaduna, Alhaji Garba assured that he will strictly adhere to his campaign promises meant to move the council to greater heights.
He enjoined those who contested and lost to join hands with the elected officials for a stronger, united and purposeful state council that would discharge its duties as enshrined in the constitution of the union.
He noted that the victory of the new officials was meant for all members of the council, assuring that all would be carried along in all spheres that has to do with the council.
“We have no time as members of the elected council to waste but to go straight into action in order to address vital problems confronting the welfare of all members,” he added.
He thanked the members of the credential working committee for a job well done, stressing that the feat achieved by the members would for a long time be remembered and would not hesitate to call on them on any assignment in the state council.
Earlier, the Senior Assistant, National Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Abuja, Mr Gbemiga Bamidele before announcing the result thanked the members of the union for conducting themselves in a peaceful and matured manner before, during and after the election.
Other officers elected are Mrs Zhiroh Jairus Jatau as vice chairman and Hajia Zainab Aliyu Mohammed was elected auditor of the state council while the posts of the secretary, assistant secretary, financial secretary and Treasurer went to Alhaji Dauda Doka, Mr Jacob Zango, Mr Femi John Ade and Alhaji Mustapha Saye as unopposed candidates.
