The Enugu State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has lauded the State Governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his bold initiative and wisdom in constituting the Enugu State Urban Renewal Committee to replace the now dissolved Nsukka Urban Renewal Committee.
The dissolved committee was earlier constituted to modernize and develop Nsukka as a University town and as the second largest city in the state.
The Association through a statement signed by its State Chairman and Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Cornelius Nnaji described the governor’s decision as uncommon and a confirmation of his commitment to run an all-inclusive government that would advance development to all the nooks and crannies of the state on the principles of justice, equity and fairness.
It would be recalled that Ugwuanyi in keeping faith with his commitment to provide equitable distribution of dividends of democracy in the state and constitute a broad based committee for developing the entire zones of the state, recently dissolved the Nsukka Urban Renewal Committee and consequently constituted the Enugu State Urban Renewal Committee to take over the functions and activities of the former committee.
Reacting further to the development, Hon. Nnaji stated that the governor had by that singular act affirmed the confidence reposed in him by the people of the state, especially those at the grassroots who defied rain and sunshine to vote for him during the elections.
“We, the Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State wish to sincerely commend our dear governor for his bold initiative and uncommon wisdom to replace the Nsukka Urban Renewal Committee with Enugu State Urban Renewal Committee, in line with his broad based vision of developing the entire zones of the state.
“It shows that he is truly the Governor of Enugu State who knows no bounds in the development of the state and appreciates the tremendous goodwill and support the people of the state accorded him during the elections and since the inception of his administration. We will continue to give him our maximum support and cooperation to advance development in the state”, the ALGON Chairman said.
