Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez, has revealed he is willing to risk further injury, by playing for Chile against Uruguay next week.
The 27-year-old left training early on Tuesday, to undergo medical tests for what was feared to be a torn calf muscle. But the medical team confirmed it was just a strain.
“The medical staff of Chile’s national team would like to inform that Alexis Sanchez has a low grade muscle injury. He will remain in Santiago, under treatment and his participation for Chile against Uruguay will be evaluated,” a statement read.
However, in an interview with Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio, Sanchez said: “It is hurting a bit but I’m fine.
“I’ll be back for Tuesday.”
There had been fears that the former Barcelona man would miss up to four weeks after picking up the injury.
