Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has advised students in the state to shun cultism and other anti-social vices.
He gave the advice on Friday in Lafia at the inauguration of the Nasarawa State Students Association (NASA) executive.
Represented by Mr Aliyu Akwe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Al-Makura underscored the importance of discipline and unity among students.
He charged the students to avoid tendencies that would jeopardise their future.
The governor said without unity, peace and discipline, no progress and development can be achieved in any organisation or institution.
On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the school, Mr Mukhtar Wakil, advocated for transparency and prudent management of the union’s resources.
He urged them to be security conscious by avoiding things that could bring problems to them.
Earlier, the outgoing National President of the union, Mr Esong Bako appreciated the students for their support during their tenure.
He called on the state government to continue with the payment of students’ scholarship allowances.
Mr Ahmed Hamza Ahmed, the new president commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for student unionism to thrive.
He said that the welfare of students would be one of the priorities of the new executive.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the executive are: Musa Raphael, Vice President; Daniel Ozigi, Secretary; Haruna Badamosi, Financial Secretary; Saba Peter, Treasurer, and Anyabuga Ovie, Auditor.
Others are Patience Jacob, Public Relations Officer; Sarki Umar, Welfare Officer, and Ado Abdulrazak, Director of Socials.
