For not meeting the educational standards and violating required guidelines for the establishment of schools in Akwa Ibom state, the State Government has shut down two private schools in the state.

In a statement signed by the state Commissioner of Education, Mrs Eunice Thomas in Uyo, the names of the affected schools include St. Thomas, Uyo and Victor Nursery School, Uyo.

She disclosed that the schools were shut down due to lack of conducive learning environment.

“Saint Thomas was closed down because the nursery, primary and junior secondary schools are accommodated in one hall that is also used for church services.

“Victor Nursery School uses only two class rooms in a crowded storey building without meeting the educational standard,” she explained.

She assured that the ministry of education won’t stop to close down schools that do not meet the state guidelines. “The ministry will continue to clamp down on illegal schools in order to guarantee the right of the child to quality education in a secured and safe environment.

“The educational development policy of this administration will not tolerate, accommodate such mess since we are revamping our educational standard to produce good ambassadors in future,” she concluded.
