The Akwa Ibom State Government on Wednesday appealed to the state branch of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), to suspend it’s planned strike action.
The Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof. Victor Bassey Inoka, who made the appeal in his office during a meeting with the union leaders, said governor Emmanuel was willing to resolve the issues pointed out by the Union.
According to Prof. Inoka, “the Governor who, has a passion for manpower development in the state and has been known to be labour friendly is committed to taking the welfare of workers in the state seriously.
“We appeal to labour leaders to exercise patience and cooperate by giving some time to the government to sort out the issues complained.”
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Valerie Obot, commended the labour leaders for showing solidarity with the ministry by honouring the Commissioner’s invitation to the meeting.
Dr. Valerie Obot sued for understanding and cooperation with the new Commissioner, who has just resumed duty and who is eager to address all labour issues in order to enhance industrial peace in the State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Health Sector Union, (JOHESU) Comrade, Aniebietabasi Obot in his speech enumerated the demands of the body which included amongst others, a request to the State Government to open negotiation with the body for the implementation of the consolidated health salary structure (CONHESS), for their members.
Other members of the union joined in calling on the Government to look into their demands to allow for harmonious working relationship.
