The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere has lost the governorship election in his Ikot-Abasi local government to his opponent of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor, Udom Emmanuel.
Announcing the result on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in UdoUdoma Avenue Uyo, the collation officer, Dr. Edwin Essien, said APC scored a total votes of 7,549 to lose out to the candidate the of the PDP, who polled a total of 9,335 votes.
Though the APC collation Agent of Akwa Ibom State, Bishop Samuel Akpan, immediately refuted the authenticity of the results as announced, stating that election in Ikot-Abasi was a sham, marred with violence and fraud.
Akpan who expressed the impossibity of the APC governorship candidate to have failed in his local government alleged that the collation Officer was a card carrying member of the PDP and therefore was sympathetic to the party.
He called for the cancellation of the result of the governorship election in the area.
Meanwhile, the PDP has swept all the fifteen local government areas announced so far out of the thirty one local governments in the state.
