The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on Tuesday formally installed Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo as the new Iyaloja-General of Lagos State.
Oba Akiolu advised the new Iyaloja to be diligent and committed to the service of humanity.
He said that the position was important to the development of market activities in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a separate interview that the new Iyaloja was capable of coordinating market activities in Lagos State.
She said that Tinubu-Ojo was under the tutelage of the late Iyaloja General, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.
“The position of Iyaloja comes with lots of duties and responsibilities.
“It is expected that she will succeed with her sense of maturity, respect for elders and diligence,” she said.
Tinubu also advised the Iyaloja to use her office to ensure prosperity of traders in Lagos State.
Mrs Hawawu Asindemade, the Iyaloja General and Chairperson, Osun Market Board, dismissed criticisms that Tinubu-Ojo was too young for the position.
Asindemade said that the position of Iyaloja was a life-time position.
She appealed to the Iyaloja-General to be committed to the welfare of traders and use her position to elicit support from the state government.
Alhaja Moriamo Folami, Iyaloja of Ojugobi Ereko, told NAN that market men and women in Lagos would cooperate with the new Iyaloja-General to ensure her success.
NAN reports that major markets in Lagos, including that of Oke Arin, Idumota, Balogun, Oshodi, Mushin and Mile 12 were shut in honour of Tinubu-Ojo’s installation. (NAN)
