Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal has suspended sitting on petition number EPT/GOV/01/2019 following the alleged threat to the lives of the petitioner, Adekunle Akinlade, the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and his witnesses.

After calling three witnesses, Counsel to the Petitioner, Sebastine Hon Esq., at the sitting on Wednesday informed the panel that he could not go on with the trial again because of threats to the lives of his witnesses.

He further called the attention of the Tribunal to the presence of some party members who were dressed in yellow caps alleging that they were in court to identify the witnesses and attack them.

Barrister Hon further informed the court that the life of his client, Akinlade, was not safe, saying the State Police Commissioner had withdrawn his security details.

After listening to Akinlade’s counsel, the Justice Yusuff Halilu-led three-man panel has suspended, till next Monday.

DAILY POST reports that APM is challenging the victory of Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in the state.
