Hon. Jumoke Akindele, has finally bowed to pressure by resigning as the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Also, other principal officers in her camp have also tendered their resignation letters.
It will be recalled that in January this year, 13 lawmakers led by Malachi Coker, impeached Akindele and other principal officers of the Assembly over alleged fraud.
But, Akindele kicked against her impeachment, saying Coker’s faction failed to follow normal procedure in her removal process.
But, the first female speaker decided to step aside following the reconciliation between the two warring factions of the Assembly.
The letter of resignation of the principal officers was officially received this morning (Monday) by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The other factional leadership of the House is expected to do same to pave the way for the election of new principal officers of the Assembly.
Hon. Malachi Coker, who led the other group, presided over a plenary session of the House today, with members of his faction in attendance.
