Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha, has stated that the outcome of the Ondo governorship election goes to show the acceptance which the All Progressives Congress, APC, enjoys in the South West geopolitical zone. Hide quoted text
The Imo State governor stated this in a statement released to newsmen in Owerri on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodor, which pointed out that the people of Ondo state “voted wisely.”
INEC had declared the APC governorship candidate in the Saturday election, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, as the winner of the poll, saying he garnered 244, 842 votes to beat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 150, 380 votes. The candidate of Alliance for Democracy, AD, came third in the fiercely contested election after scoring 126, 889 votes.
Okorocha, while congratulating Akeredolu of the APC for his victory, said, “the people of Ondo State have spoken with their votes and they spoke well. Their decision to be part of the APC government at the centre is commendable.”
The Governor reasoned that, “With their votes, they have passed vote of confidence on APC and President Mohammadu Buhari. They will never be disappointed in the APC government in the state.”
The statement added that the manner in which the Ondo electorate voted “indicated how highly intelligent they are in interpreting political development and how richly they are endowed with wisdom”.
Okorocha went on to charge other candidates in the election to waste no time in congratulating the winner
