A retired former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mustapha Akanbi (retd), yesterday blamed the federal government for waiting till the last minutes when elections are around the corner before negotiating a ceasefire deal with Boko Haram insurgents.
Justice Akanbi, a pioneer chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, spoke with journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on the occasion of the 30th Convocation lecture of the University of Ilorin.
According to Akanbi, it was wrong for the government to have waited till now when the election was fast approaching before negotiating with Boko Haram.
He said: ”I have said it before. Government must harness its people and overcome the Boko Haram sect. We cant go on like this. Elections are coming up in February and we are still fighting.”
