AIG warns policemen to refrain from corrupt practices


The Assistant Inspector-General, AIG, of Police in charge of Zone 7, Mr Ballah Nasarawa, yesterday charged officers in the zone to desist from engaging in corrupt practices that could tarnish the reputation of the force.

Sounding this warning during a working visit to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Abuja, Nasarawa said: “Things are changing in our country; the police cannot be left behind. If you want to continue on this job, you have to change your character.”

He, however, encouraged the officers to ensure that they discharged their responsibilities effectively without being intimidated, stressing that “You should not be intimidated, be firm in discharging your responsibilities.”

The AIG used the visit to announce that security would be stepped up at the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs’ camps in the zone.

“We have reviewed the situation in the IDPs camps; security arrangement will be beefed up in the FCT and its environs,” he stated.

On the forthcoming recruitment of policemen, he advised applicants to refrain from approaching officers for assistance as the exercise would be based on merit.

“On no account should anyone approach officers for assistance as the exercise will be based on merit. Do not involve yourselves in corrupt practices during the recruitment exercise,” he said.

While calling on officers not involved in the exercise to steer clear of it, he warned that anyone caught offering money to any officer would be dealt with accordingly.

“If you are not involved in the recruitment exercise, then continue with your work,” Nasarawa stated
