Ahmed signs bill halting payment of pensions to ex-Kwara governors, deputies

Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Tuesday signed into law an amendment bill stopping payment of pension to former governors and deputy governors during any period they hold political or public office.

This was disclosed in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede

The State House of Assembly recently passed the bill following consideration of a report presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Emmanuel Abodunrin.

The statement reads: “With the signing of the amended law by Governor Ahmed, former governors and their deputies shall not be entitled to pension and other benefits whenever they hold a political or public office.

“The State House of Assembly recently passed the bill following consideration of a report presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Emmanuel Abodunrin.

“Similarly, the governor gave his assent to the Ilorin Township (Prohibition Against the Production, Sale and Consumption of Liquor in Certain Areas) Law, 2018 as passed by the Kwara State House of Assembly.

“Under the law, no person will be allowed to produce, sell, store or openly consume alcohol within specified areas in the metropolis.”
