President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said that the first ultimate assignment waiting for the incoming Attorney-General of the Federation is the investigation of the recent allegation raised against the Nigerian military by the by Amnesty International.

Reacting through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari insisted that his government would carefully investigate the report.
“The president is quite disturbed by the allegations contained in the report. The next step is to look into the allegations and confirm or disprove the disturbing details,” Garba said in a statement.
He asserted further that the AGF would advise the President for appropriate action after having gone through the report.
He added that the investigation was in addition to the internal inquiry Buhari had asked the armed services to undertake by themselves.
Garba reaffirmed the President’s commitment to the protection of human rights.
“Any allegation of human rights abuse that takes place during the tenure of President Buhari’s government will be swiftly investigated and dealt with,” he said.
