A group of protesting women on Thursday charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to unfreeze the bank accounts of wife of the immediate past First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan.

Recall that the anti-graft agency had recently ordered the frozen of some bank accounts  , belonging to the former First Lady due to its ongoing investigation of alleged money laundering.

EFCC had also confirmed that Mrs Jonathan is being investigated for money laundering,  though no case has been instituted against her in any court yet.

Just yesterday, about 100 women besieged a Lagos State Federal High Court, demanding that Mrs Jonathan’s accounts be unfrozen.

But at today’s protest, the women decked in black attire took over the agency’s office in old GRA Port Harcourt, Rivers State, demanding the unfreezing of Mrs Jonathan’s account so she would be able to attend to her failing health.

The women who came under the aegis of Voice of Niger Delta Women, VONDW, brandished placards with various inscriptions, and condemning the anti-graft agency’s action.
