Few days after Barnabas Gemade of the All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated the incumbent governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam in the Benue Northeast senatorial election, some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the governor’s village, killing no fewer than 30 persons.

It was gathered that the insurgents, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded Kurungu, Tse Vir, Abur and Ageraga communities of Gaamber Tyev in Logo local government area of the state, killing anybody on sight.

Several farmers reportedly fled to Ugba town, the headquarters of Logo and Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area.

The special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Mr. Joseph Anawa, who is an indigene of the affected community, said the attack occurred at about 5 am. He stated that the militia attacked the communities and quickly retreated

The police public relations officer, ASP Ezeani Ameachi, confirmed the attack and said “several houses were burnt and corpses have also been recovered. The police and army have quickly taken charge of the affected areas to maintain peace.”
