Aftermath of Appeal Court ruling: Gunmen kill APC stalwart in Rivers

Gunmen have shot dead a former councilor of ward 1 in Abua-Odua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent gathered that Allali John-Morrison was ambushed by his assailants along Abua-Ahoada link road.

Chairman of the APC in Abua-Odua Local Government Area, Loveday Gift Igoma said the attack on John-Morrison happened at about 6am, Tuesday.

Igoma said a motorcyclist who was conveying the deceased but managed to escape from the assailants reported the incident at a police station.

He said they were double-crossed by three men in military uniform who opened fire, killing the former counselor.

Igoma said, “They were masked and they pursued him into the bush and shot him countless times.”

The killing is, however, being investigated by the police, while the remains have been deposited at a mortuary.

An Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt had given an approval to the removed Chairmen of the twenty-three Local government area of Rivers state and their councilors to formally appeal the Federal High Court judgment on their election in May, 2015.

Justice Lambo Akanbi of the Federal High Court, who is now retired had given an order nullifying the election of the Chairmen who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on May 23, 2015.
