African countries should at least conduct fair elections if they can’t send men to moon – Jonathan

The immediate past Nigerian president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has reasoned that since African countries are yet to send people to the moon, one of the least things they can do which the world would be proud of is to conduct free and fair elections.

The former president, who is leading the African Union Elections Observation Mission to Zambia, stated this on his Twitter handle on Monday, while emphasizing the need for free and fair elections in the continent.

“If Africa can’t yet send men to the moon, we should at least organize elections that are free and fair of which the whole world will be proud,” he wrote.

He had posted a group photograph he took with other AU observers, writing a caption that reads, “As they (are) ready to deploy to the field, I charged my observers to uphold the hopes and aspirations of Zambians.”

The southern African country holds its presidential and parliamentary elections this Thursday.
