Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political group, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to disarm Fulani herdsmen, “who have constituted themselves into a murderous group terrorising the country.”
Spokesperson of the group, Yinka Odumakin, made the call while addressing journalists at the end the group’s monthly meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday.
Odumakin also admonished Buhari to urgently review the appointments of heads of security agencies in the country to reflect federal character principle.
He said the present arrangement within the security apparatus was unhealthy and a means of promoting,”clannishness” in a multi-ethnic society such as Nigeria.
This was as he maintained that the organisation was against cattle colonies in the South West and across the country.
“Afenifere also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rise to the challenges of his office and put a stop to killings threatening the unity of Nigeria,” he said.
