The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Friday reacted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s appointment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s supposed niece, Amina Zakari as its head of collation center for the 2019 election.
Speaking with DAILY POST, spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin said the appointment of Zakari would have been the greatest tragedy of all time but for INEC’s explanation of her involvement in the centre.
Odumakin, who alleged that Zakari’s name had become synonymous with election manipulation, said she should have resigned from the commission, following several rigging claims against her.
He also disclosed that the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai nominated Zakari into INEC during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Reacting to Zakari’s recent appointment, Odumakin said: “That would have been the greatest tragedy of the year but for the explanation that her role was not more than setting up of the centre and that she was in charge of welfare of those who are working there.
“Amina has become a red flag and anytime her name is mentioned what comes up is election and if she has any honour she should have resigned from her appointment instead of continuing with the confusion.
“I won’t know for certain about her relationship with Buhari but I can say authoritatively that it was El-Rufai who nominated into INEC under the administration of Jonathan. She worked with under the then FCT Minister in charge of health.
“I say this authoritatively and I want El-Rufai to deny that he wasn’t the one who nominated her into service.”
