Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere , has backed Prof. Wole Soyinka on his call for the use of hunters and vigilante groups to tackle the menace of herdsmen in Ogun State.
The organization said all states in the South-West should embrace the idea, adding that the use of hunters and vigilante groups became imperative in view of the fact that the government had failed to protect the people.
The Secretary-General of Afenifere, Chief Sehinde Arogbofa told reporters on Saturday that, “Although the formation of groups for the purpose of policing may not be good enough, our government has failed to provide adequate security and the people have to defend themselves against the killer herdsmen.
“There is nothing wrong in what the local hunters and vigilante groups are doing in Ogun State.
“Afenifere welcomes the formation of such groups here in Ondo and other South-West states because our people have to protect themselves.”
