Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has revealed that they had a plan against South Africa and it worked perfectly.
Nigeria is through to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, following a 2-1 win over Bafana Bafana on Wednesday night.
Samuel Chukwueze gave the Nigerians the lead in the first half, before Bongani Zungu levelled for South Africa following a VAR decision.
William Troost-Ekong netted the winner in the dying seconds of the game.
Rohr, speaking to reporters after the match, hailed his players and home support.
“We had a plan and we knew South Africa would find it hard to replicate their performance against Egypt so we had a slight advantage.
“We are happy with the win and now we must recover in time for our next opponents.
“The support from the home fans was fantastic but my players also showed good attitude and we played very well in the first half which also gave them something to cheer about.
“I hope they continue to support us in the tournament.”
