Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has explained why he is not keen to invite players from the Nigeria Profesional Football League (NPFL) to his Super Eagles squad.
Few weeks ago, Amaju Pinnick, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), voiced out his unhappiness over Rohr’s dependence on foreign-based players.
According to Pinnick, the last 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Seychelles, should feature players from the domestic scene.
On Monday, Rohr was once again asked about the chances of players plying their trade in the NPFL making the squad for the game against Seychelles, considering that Nigeria have already qualified for the Nations Cup.
“There is a problem with the organization of the championship. I have told you that I cannot take the local players who are not playing and can’t show that they are better than the players playing in Europe.
“I want to see a good championship, a good league and then I have my assistants here who can always pick out the best.
“Most of the players playing for the Super Eagles are playing regularly in their championships in Belgium, in Germany and in France. They are playing at a high level over there,” he said according to OwnGoalNigeria.
