AFCON 2019: Leon Balogun blames one player for Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Madagascar

Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, has blamed himself for the first goal Nigeria conceded to Madagascar at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, encounter on Sunday.

The Super Eagles, on Sunday, lost 2-0 to Madagascar in their final Group B fixture at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Lalaina Nomenjanahary pounced on Leon Balogun’s slip in the 13th minute to give Madagascar a shock lead.

The Super Eagles came out fighting in the second half, but Carolus Andriamahitsinoro made the encounter end as 2-0.

Addressing reporters in the mixed zone after the game in Alexandria, Balogun said: ”I made one mistake that led to a goal. I think I defended everything I needed to defend, I know people will now only focus on that mistake.

”I didn’t make that mistake on purpose, definitely, it does not feel good but as I said it happens. Today was just a bad day for the whole team,” the Brighton star added.

Madagascar finished top with seven points, while Nigeria are runners-up with six points.
