Nigeria legend, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, has disclosed that the desire of Super Eagles’ players made Gernot Rohr’s side to defeat Cameroon 3-2 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt on Saturday.
Okocha also described Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi’s goal against Indomitable Lions as something that runs in the family.
Odion Ighalo opened scoring in the 19th minute, after his shot was deflected in by Banana.
The Indomitable Lions fought back to lead 2-1 before the break, thanks to goals from Stephane Bahoken and Clinton N’Jie.
However, Gernot Rohr’s men turned it around with two quick fire goals from Ighalo and Alex Iwobi.
“I’m happy for the goal Iwobi scored. It runs in the family,” Okocha told SuperSport.
“He went for it, he wanted to score the goal and what a wonderful goal from Iwobi.
“I say congratulations to him.”
He added: “We have seen a lot of improvement in Nigeria team. It was the desire from the players that made us won this game against Cameroon. I’m delighted that we qualified for the next round.”
Nigeria will now tackle the winner between Egypt and South Africa in the quarter-final stage in few days’ time.
