Super Eagles playmaker, Alex Iwobi, has expressed his shock over the elimination of Africa Cup of Nations hosts, Egypt and fellow North African side, Morocco from the tournament.
“The exit of the host team is sad. Morocco‘ s knockout was also surprising. We know the quality of Egypt players and their quality,” Iwobi told CAFOnline.com.
“It’s not the first time for me in Egypt. It’s a great country and everyone is helping and welcoming us greatly.”
Speaking about his relationship with Arsenal teammate, Mohamed Elneny, Iwobi said about the Egyptian midfielder: “Elneny is a great friend. He was too concerned to help me in Egypt and he is one of my closest teammates at Arsenal.”
Iwobi provided an assist, as Nigeria defeated South Africa 2-1, to qualify for the semi-final on Wednesday.
