Some Super Eagles players have reacted to Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Tunisia at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, third-place encounter on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles clinched the third place of the 2019 AFCON, thanks to a 1-0 win over Tunisia on Wednesday night at the Al Salam Cairo Stadium.
Odion Ighalo, who now has five goals at the tournament, netted the only goal in the third minute.
Reacting, Levante winger, Moses Simon told reporters after the match: ”We are glad and we believe our people back home will be proud of us”.
Also, SC Paderborn 07 fullback, Jamilu Collins said: ”We didn’t go through from the semifinals to the finals, we tried to play our best today to make our fans and our people back home to be proud of us by getting this bronze medal for them so it is something of joy.
”We tried to put a smile on their faces, at least we went with something for them, we are happy”.
On his part, Udinese defender, William Troost-Ekong said: “I think from the circumstances it is the best that we could get.
”Of course, we are disappointed not to play in the final but when you play in this kind of game, you want to make sure you can take something home and I think we did that today, so it’s a good achievement.”
Brighton defender, Leon Balogun also added: ”I think we mature a little bit, if you see the mistakes we did in the World Cup, we have mature.
”If you see how we got eliminated out of the tournament, that tells you that there is still room to improve but we are a young team and we are happy to learn.
”The greatest lessons you learn is out of failure.”
On his part, Super Eagles vice-captain, Ahmed Musa wrote on Instagram: “Very grateful to all Nigerians for supporting us as we won the third place. It’s an honour to represent my country with such resilience. Thanks so much for believing in us yet again. Well done mates #NAIJA.”
Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo added: “Wasn’t the Target.. but we are grateful and we thank Nigerians all over the world for their continuous support.. the future is definitely bright.. this squad is blessed.
Stoke City star, Etebo also wrote on Instagram: “Great performance guys and am so happy to be part of this team’ though we wanted the Gold but unfortunately got Bronze and thanks to every Nigerian fan for the support.”
