Chelsea star, Kenneth Omeruo, has backed Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt.
Omeruo, who played for CD Leganés on loan from Chelsea last season, believes Nigeria have a good team that can play in the AFCON final and possibly win the competition.
The 25-year-old defender scored the only goal in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Guinea on Wednesday to ensure Rohr’s men qualify for the round of 16.
Addressing reporters after a training session in Alexandra on Thursday, Omeruo was quoted by the Guardian as saying: “I am so excited to score my first goal for the Super Eagles, especially when it came at a time we needed it to move into the round of 16.
“We still have a lot to do, but I believe we have a good team that can play in the final and win the competition.
“To be sincere, I think it is too early for me to talk about winning the title. It is still a long journey, and we will take every match as it comes.
“As I said, we have a good squad and we are working as members of one big family. We will do our best to make Nigerians proud.”
Nigeria will tackle Madagascar in their last Group B tie on Sunday.
