The Super Eagles started their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series on a good note, by beating Chad 2-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Stephen Keshi gave international debuts to Kingsley Madu, William Troost-Ekong and Anderson Esiti on his comeback as handler of the national team, while captain Vincent Enyeama made his 101st appearance – becoming the highest-capped Nigerian player ever.

The former African champions struggled to impose themselves in the first half, but it was the visitors who came close to taking the lead. But Vincent Enyeama produced a superb save to keep the score goalless at the break.

Gbolahan Salami’s fierce shot gave Nigeria the lead in the 62nd minute of the game. Watford striker Odion Ighalo scored a second from the penalty spot, before Ogenyi Onazi was shown a red card.
