Coach of the South African national team, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, has declared that his team are coming to Nigeria, to finally break the hoodoo the African champions have over them.
Both sides played out a goalless draw in their first meeting in Cape Town and Mashaba’s men are yet to defeat the Super Eagles in a competitive encounter, since they were re-admitted into international football after the Apartheid.
The Bafana Bafana have already qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, thanks to a 2-1 win over Sudan in Durban. But Mashaba is eager to beat Nigeria on their own patch.
“Nigerians don’t want to lose against South Africa. That alone will make this match a tough one and we also have the assignment to break the hoodoo that we always lose when we play against them,” Mashaba told journalists after the team’s final training session in Pimville, Soweto on Monday.
“We have to go out there positive and believe we will do well. We are defending well but there are still some things we need to do, especially in the middle of the park where we are not picking opponents tight and that will cause us problems especially against a team like Nigeria which is very good in that area.”
