The first day of the Africa Cup of Nations, ended without a single goal hitting the back of the net.
Hosts South Africa were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Cape Verde. Bafana Bafana had two shots on target throughout the lifeless game, to Cape Verde’s seven.
“Maybe this (draw) will now take the pressure off us in the sense of not being so nervous,” Gordon Igesund, coach of the host nation said.
In the other game, Angola also drew 0-0 with Morocco, in a slightly more interesting game. The Angolan manager, Gustavo Ferrin, was hopeful they will get a better result against South Africa in the next game.
“Obviously South Africa has got extra pressure because they are playing at home but the pressure is on for both sides,” Ferrin said.
