AFCON 2013 final: Enugu residents go spiritual

Ahead of the final match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso in the ongoing AFCON this evening, residents of Enugu State have gone spiritual in support of Nigeria‘s Super Eagles. DailyPost observation showed that prayer for the Super Eagles featured prominently in many worship centres at Enugu, the Coal City capital.

The Archdeacon of the Christ Redemption Anglican Communion, Ogui, Enugu, Ven Augustine Chuka Orah, who led members of his congregation to prayer for the Eagles said God’s grace was all the players needed to bring Nigeria the much- awaited trophy.

“Victory belongs to God, His grace has led the Eagles tremendously so far, we ask today that He give us the final victory today”, he prayed.

A member of the congregation who gave his name as Mr. Steve Obiora said despite news of injury in the Eagles’ camp, “we are certain of victory today.

“The same way we prayed here today, that’s what happened across the country. If over 100 million people have prayed for Eagles, there is no way they will not beat Burkina Faso.

“You can also see that coincidentally, the church colour today is green, so even heaven is behind the Eagles”.

At the Holy Ghost Catholic Cathedral Enugu, it was not a different situation.

All the worshipers interviewed said they devoted much time praying for the Super Eagles’ victory during the morning Mass.
