Prinçe Adedayo Adeyeye
Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has threatened to file a N10bn libel suit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and its Spokesperson, Taiwo Olatubosun over a claim that the Federal Government paid N22bn to Ekiti State government as refund on construction of Federal roads in the state.
The minister said neither himself nor President Goodluck Jonathan said at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign rally in Ado Ekiti that N22bn was paid to Ekiti State by the Federal government as being claimed by the APC.
He said: “The APC and Taiwo Olatubosun must retract this malicious falsehood within the next 14 days or risk N10bn libel suit.”
Speaking further, Adeyeye said, “the road was initially awarded by the administration of Segun Oni for N6.3bn and was later increased to N7.5bn by the same government.
“The APC government of Kayode Fayemi increased the contract from N7.5bn to N11bn.
“The Federal Government had earlier paid N2bn reimbursement on the road during the administration of Segun Oni, but could not pay another N2bn requested for during the Fayemi administration because of improper documentation.
“No refund has been paid during this present administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
“The APC and its Spokesperson must, therefore, come out with documentary evidence of their imaginary payment of N22bn to the Ekiti State government.
“In the absence this, the falsehood must be retracted within 14 days, failure of which I will have no option than to approach the court for a N10bn damages”.
